Location
The Bagmoor Wind Farm is located approximately 8km north of Scunthorpe and 2km east of the village of Flixborough.
Site Description
The Bagmoor Wind Farm was developed as a joint venture project between Wind Prospect and RidgeWind. The site comprises 8 Repower MM92 turbines. These are rated at 2MW each giving the whole wind farm a rated capacity of 16MW. Each turbine is 80 metres to the hub with 45 metre blades resulting in a maximum tip height of 125 metres. The project also includes all the ancillary equipment and features such as access tracks, anemometer mast, underground cables, substation and control building.

The site was constructed throughout 2009 and began producing electricity during August 2009. The energy from the Bagmoor wind farm feeds into the local distribution network via a new purpose built underground grid connection.
With construction complete, the land surrounding the turbines has returned to its normal agricultural use and will remain in this state for the lifetime of the wind farm, expected to be 25 years. The site will not be permanently staffed but is monitored remotely and visited regularly by technicians for scheduled maintenance and repairs. After 25 years the turbines and associated infrastructure are removed and the land is returned to the pre-wind farm condition.
Benefits
During construction a large amount of money went into the local economy. Millions of pounds were spent during the development and construction of the Bagmoor wind farm providing jobs for hundreds of people, including regional contractors.
The Bagmoor wind farm at 16MW has the ability to meet the energy demands of at least 10,800 homes. This green electricity generated displaces other generated electricity including fossil fuels and will therefore prevent the release of at least 24,700 tonnes of CO2 every year as well as thousands of tonnes of other harmful greenhouses gases such as Nitrogen Oxides and Sulphur Dioxide (NOx and SO2).
The Bagmoor wind farm will also provide financial benefits to the local community. A community trust fund has been set up which will receive a portion of the revenue generated by the wind farm. The amount offered is based on the yearly output and will be a minimum of £24,000 and will continue over the 25 year life time of the project.
In addition, RidgeWind recently had the pleasure in announcing a raft of other financial initiatives to the local area. The small community of Dragonby, located just over 1km from the closest turbines are being offered an electricity subsidy of £250 for at least the next two years. With 48 homes in Dragonby this relates to an additional £12,000 fund.
RidgeWind offer educational visits to local schools to hold presentations and workshops; we also offer trips to the wind farm on a regular basis. We have also recently announced some financial educational incentives. RidgeWind have provided two £1000 scholarships to students from the local area in 2010.
